Ice Cream On The Side by Wren Boudreau

Ice Cream on the Side by Wren Boudreau is available for purchase at Loose Id.

I have never read anything by this author before and I can tell you that I will be on the lookout for more from him/her in the future. I absolutely loved this book. I could not put it down, finally crawling into bed at 8 am, tired but not sorry I’d stayed up to finish it.

The characters and storyline were well thought out. I found it extremely easy to identify with both men in this story. Everything was very believable—not farfetched as I sometimes find in stalking type stories. I have to be honest; I hadn’t read all of the blurb when I chose to review this book, so the murders were an absolute surprise to me. The suspense was enough to keep me involved and reading to find out “who done it.” And let me tell you, just when I thought I had it all figured out, Wren threw a monkey wrench into that train of thought and kept me guessing right up until the end.

This will definitely be a book I won’t soon forget, and I happily recommend it as must read to add to your Christmas Wish List.

GayLife.Com by Neil Plakcy
Reviewed by Theresa

GayLife.com by Neil Plakcy will not be on my top 10 list this year. I bought this story solely on the blurb alone and I really found that to be misleading. Although Brian’s boss may want more from him, it isn’t the topic of the story. The entire story is about Brian. Brian wants happily ever after and he wants it with his boss and friend, Nick. But Nick is currently in a relationship, so Brian figures one out of two is better than nothing and sets out on a series of relationships in hopes of finding “The One.” At the same time, he tries to make himself indispensable to Nick. Nick is in out of the story as he moves around trying to gather money for the dot com company, eventually taking the company public.

We definitely see Brian doing some much needed growing up in this story, but I got this story because I thought I was going to read a romance between Brian and Nick. In my opinion, we got everything but. A true relationship between Nick and Brian doesn’t even come into play until very late in the story and then the story is over. I wanted more and I’m sorry to say, I felt cheated, But then, maybe that is just the romantic in me.

The story had potential and I won't let this discourage me from checking out more Neil Plakcy in the future. I'm hopeful I will find "the one" too.

Leftovers by Treva Harte
Reviewed by Theresa

Leftovers by Treva Harte is available for purchase at Loose Id.

Leftovers have never tasted so good. I’m an absolute sucker for a holiday romance, I just can’t seem to help myself. So when I read the blurb for Leftovers I had to have it...and YUM!

Leftovers is a very emotional love story of on again off again lovers Paul and Emerson, and Paul’s determination to turn it on and leave it on. For a short story, Treva packs the emotion in. Emerson has a secret that he is afraid to tell either Paul or their best friend Liz, and it has been the deciding factor in his reasons for not following Paul on his quest for fame and fortune.

It is evident from the beginning that Paul is in love with Emerson—has been since college—and he can’t understand why Emerson hasn’t been by his side. He was never given a reason and that has made it all the worse. When Emerson comes clean, Paul finally has a course of action with the end result having Emerson by his side forever—hopefully. The getting there won’t be as easy as he hopes but it is well worth your time to find out if they make it.

Theresa

Description:

Thanksgiving means family, and in their case friends--old friends and the best of them. Emerson was looking forward to sharing his new home, his culinary skills, his settledness, with his on-again-off-again lover Paul and their old college buddy Liz. Everyone always knew that Paul and Emerson were meant for each other. But years down the road, Paul's on the road, chasing fame and fortune. And Emerson, for reasons all his own, refuses to follow him.

This year, though, Paul's determined to change all that. To convince Emerson through charm, logic, and incredible sex they were meant for each other. What neither of them counted on was what would change after that.

Touch by Diana DeRicci
Reviewed by Kathy K.

Touch by Diana DeRicci is available for purchase at Loose Id.

Diana DeRicci’s Touch is a good story with some interesting, and rather surprising, twists. But while, overall, I liked the story I couldn’t help feel that there was something missing.

The relationship between Derek and Deena promised to be exciting and quite sexy, but I just couldn’t really make the leap to believing what they were feeling. I connected with Derek more than I did Deena; I think it’s because I really liked that he was head-over-heels attracted to her.

The sex scenes were a little over the top, at least to my way of thinking. Even though Ms. DeRicci gave us a reason for Deena’s rather easy acceptance, I didn’t really feel it... almost too, mechanical, for want of a better word.

What did surprise me was that the m/f/f and even the f/f scenes actually worked for me, at least they seemed to flow more easily. But throughout the story, regardless of the titillating sex play, I never really felt a strong emotional connection, and I felt the lack.

It could just be that Deena didn’t strike me as someone that I could really care about, or it could be that there were too many little details that added clutter rather than clarity. Whatever the reason, I liked Diana DeRicci’s Touch but it didn’t rock my world.

Kathy K.

Book Description:

Deena is turning twenty-nine and her friend has given her the best gift: a free pass to Touch, a decadent luxury playground that caters to the rich and famous. She’s worked endlessly to get her business off the ground, and this break to play is exactly what she needed. The treatments aren’t half bad either.

Derek, the owner and controlling mastermind behind Touch, has ulterior motives for getting Deena to Touch. Several months before, he’d discovered the knock-out blonde at a mutual friend’s wedding. Knowing she was dating, he tried to put her out of his mind, yet when her boyfriend leaves in a butcher’s rendition of chopped hearts, Derek lays out the ammunition to win her for himself.

All he needs is his secret weapon: Touch.

Family Unit by Z.A. Maxfield
Reviewed by Theresa

If you want a book that will keep you totally involved, I suggest, Family Unit by Z.A. Maxfield. It is by far my favorite of hers. I don’t think I have laughed quite so hard over a story in quite some time. The preparation of Thanksgiving dinner had me laughing so much I literally fell out of bed. This one will definitely be in my top ten favorite books of 2009. If you never believed the old say opposites attract after reading this story there will be no doubt.

Richard is a liberal forty-five-year-old grandfather, raising his eight-year-old grandson and Logan is a retired United States Marine Corps Colonel. These two should have nothing in common but when they meet, fireworks fly. The differences in these two are many but the immediate attraction and growing love is felt through out the book. When tragedy strikes, Richard will find himself relying on those very things he morally opposes in Logan. Logan finds he needs to be a hero to the man he has grown to love and the child who has found his way into his heart. Will these three become a family unit or will outside influences conspire to tear them apart.

I loved this story of mature men trying to make a go of it and toss in the temperamental but loveable eight year old. I was hooked from beginning to end—putting this book down was not an option. I suggest a box of Kleenex because when I wasn’t crying over sad parts I was laughing so hard I was crying over the funny parts.

Genre: LGBT Erotic Contemporary
Length: Novel Plus

A retired marine, Logan is methodical and conservative. Richard is a liberal pacifist who is pathologically afraid of guns. Yet the minute Logan sets eyes on Richard, his heart turns over like an old car engine and it isn't long before his motor is revved and Richard is in the driver's seat—even if it seems like each man is driving a different car.

Richard Hunter is parenting his grandson, and the kid—Nick—has had it rough. Richard vows nothing will stop him from creating a loving and stable home. Not even a tempting, red-hot relationship with a very attractive man. However, when Richard looks into Logan’s blue eyes it’s tough to stay focused.

It’s never easy to become a family, what with a temperamental eight-year-old, disapproving outsiders, and outright extortion attempts. But when push comes to shove, both Logan and Richard are committed family men who want to make a loving home for a little boy who needs them.

Dangerous Ground 2: Old Poison by Josh Lanyon
Reviewed by Kathy K.

Dangerous Ground 2: Old Poison by Josh Lanyon is available at Loose Id.

Book review: I was so happy to see that Taylor and Will were back for another adventure. Josh Lanyon is one of my favorite authors; his storytelling, his characters and the situations in which they find themselves are all gripping, intriguing and downright suspenseful. Putting down any of his books is very difficult and in Old Poison, Mr. Lanyon has done it again. I sped through this second installment in his Dangerous Grounds series and, in many ways, I found it even more tension-filled than the first book.

I also breathed a sigh of relief as Will and Taylor seem to be making a real go of their relationship. The two of them are both incredibly attractive, even just taking into account their personalities. They are also very complementary men; Will’s ability to think before acting often keeps Taylor from getting in over his head. But by the same token, Taylor’s impulsiveness will spur Will on to action rather than over thinking things.

It’s only been a month or so since their adventures in Dangerous Grounds took place, and now they’re facing an entirely new danger.

The tension is finely honed and carries us along as both Will and Taylor are facing personal challenges as well as relationship issues. One of the things that I like most about Josh Lanyon’s storytelling is that his characters are not supermen; they’re real people who fight, get hurt and suffer. They’re also people that we can admire and get involved with.

If you haven’t read either of Josh Lanyon’s Dangerous Ground books, what are you waiting for? Action, adventure, steamy sex and sizzling romance... what’s not to like?

Book review: I absolutely love Caitlyn WillowsInto the Wild. The combination of characters ~ jaguar shifter, calico cat and human ~ was intriguing. What happened to them was unsettling, but as a reader it was astounding and thrilling... oh and did I mention sexy? Rowr!

Cristian, Lupe and Jeremy had been close before the accident, but afterwards what they shared took on a whole new dimension; the connection between the three of them became singular and downright fascinating.

The world in Caitlyn WillowsInto the Heart series is similar in some ways to others in the genre, but it has a really strong identity all its own. Into the Wild is the third book in the series, yet I found it worked very well as a standalone story. Even so, now that I’ve read this book, I’m very much looking forward to going back to the first two in the series. I had no trouble at all understanding how events in the previous books related to Into the Wild; Ms. Willows did an excellent job incorporating past events into this story.

The story was erotic, yet a tender and loving romance; the characters, while of the paranormal variety, still managed to come across as real, genuine and, for the most part, very likable people. I’m really looking forward to spending time with Caitlyn Willows’ first two books in the series ~ Into the Lair and Into the Night. I’m also wondering if we’re to be treated to other adventures from her Into the Heart series... I certainly hope so!

My Heroes Have Always Been Cowboys by Lynn Lorenz is available for purchase at Amber Allure.

Cowboys and Indians, oh my—fantasy and reality play a big roll in this story as Charles works things to make his childhood fantasy come to life, even if for just a night. Mix in a little humor, a lot of hot sex, and maybe—just maybe—this Desperado will capture the handsome Indian Prince in disguise as a sexy Princess.

A night of sensual pleasure that that both secretly hopes leads to forever.

A man in makeup isn’t exactly my thing but the blurb grabbed my attention and one of my favorite scenes turned out to be in the beginning where Simon is putting on his makeup for the party. It was very easy to put myself in the room with Simon and I have to admit to blushing just a bit because it even turned me on—lol.

My Heroes Have Always Been Cowboys was a quick and enjoyable read.

The teaser sounded really good; I’ve always loved the friends-to-lovers theme and I’m always interested in trying out a new, or at least new-to-me, author. What’s not to like?

At first I would have said Savannah; in the beginning of the story I really wasn’t sure that this was going to be a story that I’d be able to get through never mind one that I’d like. But all that changed once I began to get caught up in the back-story of Savannah and Thorn’s friendship, the changes in their relationship over the years and their growth as people. This wasn’t going to just be another woman wanting to get rid of her virginity story; this one had heart and a lot of it.

It’s also about growing up, individually and as friends, and falling in love. I really liked Savannah’s best girl friend Allison; she was the voice of reason for her rather impetuous and hard-headed friend. Thorn, well he was just killer ~ sexy and madly in love with his best friend, but he was also quite wise and willing to take the risk of opening Savannah’s eyes to the truth of their relationship.

What follows is a rather stunning story that turned all my expectations completely on their head. An emotionally rich story that also contains laughter, tears and, overall, a story that enchants.

Will I be looking for more books by Rosalie Stanton? You betcha!

This is not the first Josh Lanyon story that I’ve ever read and it will certainly not be the last. I hadn’t read the previous story ~

I would have liked I Spy Something Wicked regardless, but it makes much, much more sense if read after the Josh Lanyon Mark and Stephen story.

This short story is rife with drama, tension and angst, but it’s also a story of love and romance. Mark has finally settled into a life that he really enjoys, especially since he’s with Stephen. But when a voice from his past approaches him he’s torn. Watching as he struggles to make the decision to do not only what’s right, but what he really wants is hard; I really felt for him as he fought between loyalty and love. It hurt that he felt so alone, so divided.

This is a wonderful follow-up story to I Spy Something Bloody; if you’ve read the first, you’ll want to catch up with Mark and Stephen. This book is firmly in my re-read pile and will be one that I’ll enjoy reading over and over again.

Another Dream by Addison Albright can be purchased at Torquere Books

I found the storyline to be quite good and I really enjoyed Marty and Larry. Larry is a twenty-nine-year-old, super shy virgin who has a tool belt fetish. And how convenient that his neighbor is a carpenter who wears his tool belt home every day. Put these two together and you get hot sex and humorous moments—a great combination.

I have never read this author before so I was pleasantly surprised with how much I enjoyed this story. It was a very good book. My only issue was that I felt the story lacked the emotion that could have made it an excellent book. The author has a great imagination, she can tell a good story, I just didn’t feel the emotion that should have been there. Despite this, I would definitely give this author another shot as was I greatly entertained by Another Dream.

While in search of Addison Albrights website I found out that Another Dream is actually book 2 of a three part series, I know that book one is a couple you meet in this book and although I am sure I would have probably enjoyed the book even more had I read book one I can say I didn't even realize I was in the middle of a series so in this readers opinioni Another Dream can be read as stand alone story.

But nothing threatens her sense of safety more than dominance-oozing Torin. He wants her, but not for what’s between her legs. For what he believes her to be—some ludicrous savior from some absurd prophecy. No matter…his offer to take her away from Earth is too good to refuse.

But when a savage desire begins to burn between them, both Torin and Kala are in danger—and so are the worlds of man.

Product Warnings

This book contains an ancient prophecy that can’t be denied, a brooding hero tormented by desire, a stubborn woman who hungers for his touch, a villain so vile you’ll want to kill him yourself and sex so hot it’ll melt the suns of the known universes…and then some.
